Dethklok in NYC

You simply have to read about this band to understand:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dethklok

Bassist Bryan Beller and his wife Kira are friends of mine. Bryan and Mike, below are playing with Dethklok currently. It was a very unique experience for me to see this show. Not used to that kind of music (extremely hard rock, almost like death metal I guess) but the animation they show during their concert was so bizarre. Words fail me. Probably because it is 10 am and I am STILL up. I think I have strep throat πŸ™ FUCK!! Gotta get to bed. Tour dates below

x

Frank Zappa alum and friend, Mike Keneally . I haven't seen him in person since I was on the 1988 Frank Zappa tour! We have kept in touch online, but it was GREAT to see him again. SUPER nice guy, AMAZING guitarist.

The Happy Mondays still got it

It was such a BLAST hanging out with the Happy Mondays again. Shaun is the sweetest artist ever. On their night off in NYC we went out to karaoke (my idea πŸ™‚ and Shaun sang "Ring of Fire" with me (he wanted to do Dean Martin -Memories.. but DJ didn't have it, AND Frank Sinatra "Something Stupid" with me, but again, didn't have it). So he and I did Ring of Fire together and we did not do it justice, I have to say. haha,  BUT it was fun sucking at a song with him. hahaha. He only did it cause I pleaded for him to do it, so don't think he is a karaoke fan, he is just up for a good laugh and that's why everyone loves Shaun.

Shaun Ryder ^ me and tour manager John at Nevada Smith's Irish bar

The man has it ^  Hard to describe, but he is so charming it's unreal.  And he will make you laugh non-stop as well. Swoon.

Chrissi came along and belted out several tunes too. Jonesy was there too but no pics of him πŸ™

Andy, the Smiths guitarists (good mate of Shaun's) was also in tow. (he did NOT sing karaoke πŸ™‚

Some soul sista's wanted in on the picture action

Fat Bottomed girls you make the rockin' world go round! (to the far right is Olay, mate of Andy's)

The night of the show I was not working massages, just hanging out and raising hell. FUN!!

John (tour manager) and I backstage at the Roseland Ballroom

The band was tight!!! ^

Buckcherry and Papa Roach, last night

St. Patrick's Day and night was out of this world fun for me and my friend Chrissi. I was naturally there to massage and I brought her to just hang out and enjoy the sights and sounds of wild rock stars.

The first time I saw Buckcherry was in Berlin around 10 years ago. They were opening for KISS . When I heard the name “Buckcherry” I thought, THAT is a clever name. Then I heard/seen them play and thought “THIS band will make it BIG”. Now they are HUGE.

Theory of Deadman, last night

Theory of a Deadman have been clients of mine for a while, but my whole massage team has got to massage them before me, lol, which happens a lot now. Last night, I finally got to massage them and they loved it. Whooped their asses on the massage chair. I am much stronger when I massage clients on the massage table, but at the Starland Ballroom , my favorite venue EVER, there isn't much room backstage, so I bring the chair. The band AND manager, Mark, are all from Canada. Super relaxed, polite guys to be around. They played in NJ last night, but opened for M

The Pogues do NYC, twice

The Pogues are legendary. They played last night in NYC and it was AMAZING. I never saw them with Shane as the singer before, when I saw them in 1991, Joe Strummer was on vocals (this was when the band and Shane weren't getting along). So it was SUPER special for me to see the original line up in full force. It was everything I exptected. Band is tight, Shane is fun and very entertaining and his voice, omfg, so sexy, I swear every female in the place must have had goose bumps the whole time. Highlight for me was when they played “Dirty old town”. If they are heading your way, PLEASE don't miss the show, they are the BOMB.

MotΓΆrhead fires up NYC (Roseland Ballroom, 2008)

I know this blog is late, but as they say, better late than never Kiss

As always,  Motörhead pulled through, showed everyone a good time and put on a fantastic show. They always treat me like family and let me bring two of my friends backstage to say hi and hang out. Phil was generous with the champagne, Reese's peanut butter cups (he has LOADS of them in his dressing room) and pizza.

Awaiting me at the box office window was a few tickets AND laminated passes. That's always a good thing. It was sold out, packed to the brim.

That is my friend Jill ^. She is from England but spends A LOT of time here in NYC. The guy in the red cowboy hat on your blog is GASS WILD.

His band is called THE LOVE PIRATES . Super nice bloke. Jill is a ROCK chick to the core. She wrote her own blog about the Motorhead show:

"New York!,we are Motorhead and we play Rock and Roll!"

So I went to see Motorhead last night with Dr Dot,it was insanely good.I had an "all access' pass courtesy of Dot and the band.I've now decided I cannot see another show in my lfe without one of these things, lol…ahhh the heady power.

We watched the gig from a slightly elevated area to the side of the stage. The venue was packed, the fans on the ground level were mental, the mosh pit was one of the most dangerous looking i've ever seen!,the security guys really earned their crust last night.

Having said that, even though the mosh area was bordering on riot, they all looked to be having fun.

Motorhead, well what can I say??these phuckers turn their shit up to way past 11,they are tight as hell and sound the business, special shout out to Mickey D who played some blinding drums. Also I couldn't help noticing what great thighs Lemmy has,Dot reckons it's from all the shagging.Yeah,so all in all a blistering set, those mofo's can RAWWWWWWWWWK!

Backstage….

Now,i'm not saying Lemmy's moles have their own gravitational pull….but ermm…..anyway,lol.I met him,he was lovely, charming even. His dressing room was filled with an assortment of girls as you would expect and I thought"uh oh the potential for more cock-blocking incidents are high tonight"(see previous blog),however it didn't happen,I talked to him and got a photo which you can see in my comments section.I can't put my pics in album section as i'm using a computer at an internet caff.

Most of the time we hung out in Phil's dressing room as Dot is good mates with him.It was quite a surreal experience,I made a mental note of all the things on their riders, lot's of alcohol of course but thankfully no bowls of "green only" M+M's or wotever wanky thing David Lee Roth once requested, lol.I also thought there's a lot of ego stroking which has to go on with a band, ego stroking and reassurance I suppose, thought to myself it must be exhausting if you work for the band or are a girlfriend or something.Fortunately in this instance it would be easy to stroke their ego's coz they were brilliant but what about times when they are shit?people must tell them they were great anyway?Don't think I could do that,if you were shit, you're gonna know about it, no doubt my back-stage privileges would soon be revoked, lol.

Also spoke to Mickey D briefly, he has awesome 1980's hair and is from Sweden, Phil is Welsh, Lemmy English.

I think I left at about 2am,Dot had to go get her massage table out of the car,the work never ends for that chick.

Bizzarely, last night I dreamt of Lemmy and I was sitting on his lap and he asked me"when was the last time you went to church?"

Strange huh?

Wotever could it mean?"

Jill

That's me, Phil and Greg, my NYPD friend. Hey! Never judge a book by it's cover. Greg is a heavy metal head who travels to every country he can. He is open minded, has a sharp sense of humor, is well mannered and currently single, ladies πŸ˜‰

Phil asked Greg to play a joke and go into the opening act's band dressing room and whip out his NYPD badge and scream "ok, who has the weed mother fuckers! NYPD!! Get up against the wall!!" He kept in character the whole time and started frisking one guy and they guy was obviously used to the drill as he said "you better be a real cop mister!". Phil and I watched on with a shocked look on our face to make it seem real. Then Phil started laughing, as did Greg and every one was cracking up. The one against the wall took a minute to give in and laugh over the fact he had just be punked big time. ha ha

Go for it Phil!! Here he is playing my favorite Motörhead tune "just cause you've got the power".. sigh

Pure ROCK AND FUCKING ROLL!  ^

Watching the fans mosh pit from this angle was so fucking fun. I can't believe the shit these rowdy rockers were doing throughout the show. I am surprised no one died. lol.

Mickey Dee had a dressing room FULL of hot babes. We had to plow our way through them to say hi. "Oh Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey, Hey Mickey" (surely that song was about Mickey Dee, no?)

Jesus fucking CHRIST! Can you look any more apathetic Lemmy? Some one get an espresso, quick, before he fucking dozes off.

I didn't take this video footage personally, but I snagged it from youtube so you can have a listen/look at the show..

Steve Vai tears up NJ

This just in:

My family (Dad's side) down in Georgia just called and they said they won #1 place in the corn bread competition and 10th place (out of 300 hundred applicants) in the annual Stone Mountain Chili Cook off!!!!!!!

Lisa is down there with them raising hell and they are so ecstatic they took a giant trophy for their corn bread! They call themselves the Killer Bee's Chili team and they compete every year at this Chili Cook off down there. I think I will join them next year, sounds fun. They told me there were several cover bands playing at the all weekend festival, a Hendrix cover band called VooDoo was the best (my Dad said).

From left to right ^ My Dad's sister, Aunt Caron, her son JC, Aunt Nancy (Dad's other sister + favorite Auntie ), Allyson my Dad's wife of over 25 years, My DAD :), Melissa (Aunt Caron's daughter + my niece) + the girl Kneeling is Chantel a friend of Melissa's who helps them every year at the cook off.

So congrats to the whole Fam Damily for their cooking talents πŸ™‚

Last night, the 28th, was 10 days after my tonsillectomy and even though I probably should have just stayed home and rested, I couldn't resist the call of the wild and went to  the Steve Vai show at the Starland Ballroom, in Sayerville, NJ, my favorite venue in the world. I used to work at like 2 concerts a week there and know the whole staff. This place is SO FUN to go to, I love eveyone there, the cook, the bar backs, the roadies, managers, they just all rock.

Everyone always hangs out in the kitchen and cracks jokes. I warned everyone that I would be coming but couldn't speak loud or much thanks to a hurt throat but that plan went out the window, I simply  had to speak and catch up with my old friends. One friend in particular was in dire need of some tender loving care. Two weeks ago, Pauls wife of one year gave birth to their first child, a baby boy.
The wife died 4 days later due to complications from her c-section. So he is beyond gutted. I couldn't massage last night because my Doctor said you can't workout or work for at least a month after a tonsillectomy but I brought one of my best massage assistants with me, Koree, to be there to massage anyone who needed it at the Steve Vai show and so I treated Paul to 30 minutes of massage from Koree, who has hands of steel, like butter, I love her. Paul LOVED his massage and felt a little better, the
poor guy πŸ™

Paul is a massive Dead head and always has the Dead or solo Garcia playing in the kitchen, even during shows. He just cranks his stereo up louder to drown out whatever act is on stage lol

Nick is a fucking NUT ^  I love him madly. He makes everyone who enters the Starland Ballroom howl with laughter.

< I know a few people with that tattoo

It was great to see the "mad fiddler" again, Ann Marie ^  I am just kidding, she is a violinist..

When Steve introduced the band on stage, he mentioned how he "stole her from Jethro Tull" with a sharp laugh. It is true, I asked her. She was touring with Jethro Tull and then auditioned for Steve Vai and instead of doing the next leg of the Jethro Tull tour, she joined Steve on the road and the rest is history. This woman is so talented and gorgeous, it's hard to take your eyes off her when she is on stage. She challenges Steve during the show, her violin, his guitar, it is amazing to see and hear, absolutely mad!

The Bass master, Bryan brought his parents and introduced them to me. He looks just like his Mom. The NJ native was beaming all night but you could tell backstage that he was missing his cutie Kira Small, who is on tour with her band at the moment.

Zack is young fresh guitar blood. Read about him by clicking HERE

Steve is giving this 20 year old guitar genius a chance to shine by letting him open for him at every show and even invites him on stage every night for a number or two. Frank Zappa did the same for Steve when he was 20, plucked him fresh out of the Berkley School of Music. So I guess Steve is keeping the faith and sharing his spot light with Zack as Frank did for him. What a man Steve is. Zack showed me all the movies he has made on his lap top and I am pretty sure he will end up a movie director one day, as he is amazing at it.

Speaking of Lap tops, everyone on Steve's tour except for Bryan Beller uses an Apple. I feel so old fashioned using a PC still. I have to get a Mac I guess to keep up with the times. Steve said PC's are crap compared to  Apples and he said Blackberry's are junk compared to the iPhone. Why oh WHY did I just order a new version of the Blackberry (the Curve). I wish I hadn't now that I have seen how fucking cool the iPhone is. Oh well, maybe I will just give my Curve to Jasmine and get a freakin' iPhone next.

I got to spend a lot of one on one time with Steve before and after the show, yay. He showed me his iPhone for about 20 minutes and it made me loathe my Blackberry with a vengeance. He showed me how you can type in any address and zoom in on it with the satellite and we found my house and saw it on his phone! He is indeed Mr. Gadget. Love the pic he gave me ^ I think I will have it framed in silver and wear it as a necklace charm.

We talked a lot about Frank Zappa and his music and his son Julian, who is currently in Massage school, inspiring to be a member of my massage team. That would soooooo rock, having a Vai on our team. I have yet to meet Mrs. Vai, maybe next time. I hear from everyone that she is as sweet as Steve is.

Steve has a great sense of humor. Somehow we got to talking about my sex column and I told him about the time a woman wrote in asking for advice about how to hide her farts on long weekends at home with her man. Steve said "Farts are like God's joke on us". He fucking cracks me up. I ordered a fart machine and had it shipped to my pal Christin's house, who will see him up in Boston in a few days… she will give it to him for me. I can't wait to hear how he reacts.

Steve trying the Bite Method on me ^ ?

His famous guitars  ^

During the show, as I said before, Steve introduced the band and directly after, he said "Special thanks to my friend Dr. Dot for coming out tonight to make us feel good, give a hand to Dr. Dot everybody" and he pointed at me on the side of the stage (I was next to the sound/monitor man Roger). Oh my God, I was NOT expecting that and blushed ten shades of red.

Steve is by far my favorite client, there is no other artist that sweet. He is the absolute fucking bomb and that show last night was brilliant. It was PERFECT.

After the show I was soooooooooooo hungry, it has been 10 days since I've had a real meal and I couldn't take it anymore and nibbled on a tiny piece of pizza; chewed it REALLY good and got it down. That tasted so good I ate the whole thing. It took me about 30 minutes to chew it all, but I got it down and man it felt good. SO it looks like I am pretty much healed now. I still have a sore throat but I am on the road to recovery πŸ™‚

Steve Vai leftovers ^  πŸ™‚

We were talking about my Tonsillectomy and he told me about his when he was 6 years old. He said the first thing he asked for when he woke up was Potato Chips. He said his Mom called the Doctor and said "Doc, he wants Potato chips!!" and the Doc replied "Aaaah, then give him Potato chips"
LMFAO!!!!!!!! So he got Potato chips. This is one tough cookie.

Steve noticed I was finally eating and offered me his left over pasta which Paul, the cook whipped up especially for him. Whole wheat Ziti Pasta with bits of Tofu  and red & green peppers and zucchini  coated in a Balsamic Vinegar sauce. I am in fact eating Steve Vai's left overs as I type this and man are they yummy. Heh heh. He ate most of the Tofu though..dam him! heh heh

Zakk Wylde show (April 2 2005)

^ What I love about this picture is the fact I am tugging on his beard and getting away with it πŸ˜€

When I was introduced to Zakk, he threw many compliments at me, making me blush and smirk. He was like, “I'm a married man, but if I wasn't, I'd eat you alive lady, you're gorgeous! But, I love my wife, would kill for her, I'm a family man”. I heard he is from NJ, in fact, not far from the Starland Ballroom, the venue which he sold out last Saturday night.

He is Ozzy's guitarist and people were basically crying outside because they couldn't get in. It was that packed. I was surprised how gorgeous he is in person. Also, he is so polite and charming, hello, it was hot as hell in his dressing room!

There were so many bikers there and Black Label members (similar to Hells Angels in case you were wondering). Made me think of the film “Gimme Shelter” the Stones at Altamont, Sympathy for the Devil, you know that film? Security for that gig was all done by Hells Angels and one guy got stabbed to death (by a Hells Angel) when the Stones started playing Sympathy for the Devil. But at Zakk Wyldes gig, everyone was peaceful and happy as hell to see their hero on stage. I heard a bit of gossip before the show: At the hotel where Zakk was before the show, the cops arrived and asked the concierge “which room is Zakk Wyldes?” and headed up in the elevator at the same time, Zakk was on his way down in the other elevator thanks to a tip from a friend. Guns were being fired off in his hotel room, no one was hurt, I think it was just for fun, you know, like pre-show fireworks LOL! Hope I don't get shot for repeating that, if so, you know why hee hee.

^ Zakk on stage >

We were lucky to even get to see him play, as the electricity went out 4 times before the show thanks to the heavy rain storm. Everyone was freaking out wondering if the show would go on or not and if so, would the power go out during one of his guitar solos? If so, would he get pissed off and shoot someone? All of this anticipation made the evening HOT!

The opening act, Meldrum > are all from Sweden except the blonde guitarist, Michelle, who's last name is Meldrum, yep, she is the founder of the band and she is from Detroit. I massaged the WHOLE band, including their bus driver and tour manager.

^ Moa, the singer of Meldrum before the show ^ and during

^ Michelle warming up before the show

^ Frida the bassist, after show

I was at the Project Object show last night, which ROCKED! Will tell you about that in the near future, promise.
