I have been asked by HUNDREDS of Professional Massage Therapists in the USA, Canada, Europe and Australia and New Zealand to let Concert Promoters and Touring Band managers know they do not want to work for “$1 per minute”. Many of them say the same thing “this rate is TWO DECADES old!” and “Why should we be backstage and only get paid when someone is on on our table? What about the time when no one is on the table?” and my favorite complaint was: “The postage stamp no longer costs Ten Cents. Gas no longer cost $1 per gallon. Inflation affects everyone. We want to earn PER HOUR. Not per minute. It is insulting!”
I agree with them 100%. It is not their fault that people are too busy to get onto the table for a massage. They do not get paid when there are no clients on the table. They SHOULD be paid per hour. Many top acts hire promoters to sort out massage service backstage. The Artists have no idea that the therapists are being paid so badly. Sometimes the therapists are backstage for 7 hours and only earn $45 because there was only 45 minutes of “active massage”. This is worse than minimum wage. This is called TAKING ADVANTAGE.
Please spread the word that Professional Massage Therapists spend thousands of dollars for their schooling, then about $400 for a good massage table and it is a slap in their face to expect them to stand around for FREE waiting for your crew to find time to get onto the table. They deserve to be paid PER HOUR as everyone’s time is worth something. Not just the artist and management. I am going to bat for these Therapists as I KNOW how hard they work.
They are worth every penny.
Thank you,
Dr. Dot
